Vell Thomas Chappell

Vell Thomas Chappell, age 79, of Clarkesville, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2015. Born on February 24, 1936, in Clayton, he was a son of the late Ben and Connie Gibson Chappell. Mr. Chappell was a retired truck driver and was a member of Safe Harbor Church of God in Eastanollee. He was a hard worker who enjoyed spending time with his family and church family. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by sisters, Mae Humphries, Maxine Keener, Lucille Chappell, Minnie Lou Chappell and Annie Lee Henry. Survivors include wife, Carolyn Gilstrap Chappell of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sandra Chappell of Clarkesville; daughter and fiancé, Janet Chappell and Kent Greer of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Tonya Chatham of Eastanollee, Janna Ranaldi of Martin, Dale Chappell of Clarkesville and Nicole Payne of Demorest; seven great grandchildren; brother, Michael Chappell of Mountain City; sisters, Sheila Payne of Wiley, Sarah Watts of Clayton, Gloria Eller of South Carolina, Ivylyn Butler of Tennessee and Marie Watts of Clayton Memorial services are 3 pm Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Clarkesville Church of God with Rev. Tim Tanner and Rev. Ralph Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home and Habersham Crematory of Cornelia (706/778-8668) are in charge of arrangements.
