Wendell Reems

Wendell Voyce Reems, age 71 of Baldwin, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Born in Banks County on November 24, 1940, he was a son of the late Inez Norton Reems and the late Ruben Reems. Mr. Reems was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church and was retired from the road department. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, dirt track racing and watching NASCAR. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Marty Reems and brother, Fred Lee Reems. Survivors include daughter, Amy Reems Goss of Cornelia; three grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, J. R. & Ann Reems of Baldwin; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel & Joe Lunsford of Clarkesville and Evelyn & Raymond Holbrooks of Baldwin; half sister and husband, Teresa Reems Smith and James Smith of Cornelia. Funeral services are 11:00 am Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Dr. Kenneth Franklin officiating. Interment will follow in the Leatherwood Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720 and the American Legion Post #84. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-5 & 7-9 pm on Tuesday. An online guest register is available and may be viewed at www.mcgaheegriffinandstewart.com.
