William Floyd Martin Obituary

William Floyd “Bill” Martin, age 74 of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017. Born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on August 06, 1943, he was a son of Mary Lou Willis Martin of Baldwin & the late Floyd Calvin Martin. Bill was a retired Correctional Officer with the Georgia State Department of Corrections with 27 years of dedicated service. He served in the United States Navy and was an avid supporter of our troops in the military. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding horses and was an avid sports enthusiast. Bill was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, & friend. He was a member of the Baldwin Baptist Church. In addition to his mother, survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Peggy Fair Martin of Cornelia, GA; daughters & sons-in-law, Connie Martin Gosnell & Jeff Gosnell of Demorest, GA and Amy & Andy Williamson of Jefferson, GA ; son & daughter-in-law, Tracy & Michele Martin of Clayton, GA; brother & sister-in-law, Richard & Helen Martin of Cornelia, GA; grandchildren, Logan Gosnell & Lainey Gosnell of Demorest, GA; Harry Martin & Brenna Martin of Clayton, GA; Rev. Brandon & Hannah Poteete of Anna, TX; Erin Poteete of Adairsville, GA; nephew, Matt Martin of Baldwin, GA; niece, Lacy & Michael Hastie of Clarkesville, GA; very special nephew & spouse, John & Lauren “Molly” Fair of Demorest, GA; very special friends, Johnny Briggs & Butch Davis, many other relatives & friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Thomas & Rev. Brandon Poteete officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens in Blairsville, Georgia with Rev. Tully Griggs officiating at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made in memory of “Bill Martin” to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
