Mr. William Dewey “Willie” Hallford, age 85 of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Habersham County, Georgia on October 19, 1926, Mr. Hallford was a son of the late James Robert & Myrtle Hightower Hallford. He was retired after 20 years of service with the United States Navy and served his country proudly during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hallford was also retired after many years of service as a Lieutenant with the Georgia Tech Campus Police. He was also a life-time member of the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post # 7720. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hallford was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Ferguson Hallford, sister, Wilma Hallford, sister and brother-in-law, Lucille & Jake Church, brothers, Loy Hallford, Hughie Hallford, Clarence “Poon” Hallford, Jimmy Hallford, & Jerry Hallford. He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Hallford Kangiser, Clarkesville, GA; sons, Robert E. Hallford, Stone Mountain, GA; Mark T. Hallford, Gwinnett County, GA; brothers and sister-in-laws, Raymond & Lorraine Hallford, Edward & Mildred Hallford, all of Demorest, GA; sister-in-laws, Ping Hallford, Demorest, GA; Louise Hallford, Majell Hallford, both of Clarkesville, GA; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the V.F.W. Memorial Park Cemetery in Demorest. The family will receive friends at the residence (800 Sutton Mill Rd. Clarkesville, GA. 30523) from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday evening. Flowers are optional or memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Pkwy, Suite 222, Gainesville, GA. 30501.
