William Wayne Short

William Wayne Short, age 80 of Demorest, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on September 26, 1939 to the late William Ben Short and Queen Elizabeth Maney Short. Mr. Short retired from Lee Arrendale State Prison after many years of service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Short was a hard worker, loving husband and father. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wendall Short and Johnny Short; sister, Brenda Martin. Surviving are his wife, June Lunsford Short of Demorest; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark Wayne Short of Demorest, William Michael & Angie Short of Clarkesville; grandchild, Caden Short; sisters, Betty Matskowsky of San Diego, California and Debbie Champlin of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services are scheduled for 1 pm, Sunday, August 16, 2020 at New Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Dill officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84, and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15. Services will be live streamed from the funeral home’s Facebook page for those not able to attend. The family respectfully asks that those in attendance please wear a mask and adhere to the social distance and public health guidelines. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Short’s memory to Bible Way Baptist Church, PO Box 2424, Clarkesville, GA 30523.
