Dr. James Edward Davis

Dr. James Edward Davis, 80, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday January 14, 2016 at his residence following a period of declining health. Born November 22, 1935 to the late Edward Clinton and Evelyn Davis in Madison, FL, he had been a resident of Dawsonville for the past 10 years. Dr. Davis worked as a private physician for many years throughout the southeast. He studied at Duke University, received his B.S. from the University of Florida, and received his M.D. from the University of Miami. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of Vietnam where he served for 10 years as a surgeon. A longtime and very active member of the Lions Club of Savannah, GA, he had served as Treasurer, President and District Governor and also earned many notable awards such as Lion of the Year, Distinguished Service Award, and Melvin Jones Fellowship. He had a great passion for the Georgia Lions’ Camp for the Blind where he had also served as President. A loving and dedicated husband, father and friend he is also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret R. “Peggy” Davis; daughter, Lynn Davis Cramer; brother, Jack Glenn Davis. Surviving are his daughters and son in law, Patricia A. Herpel, Carrollton; Kelley and Brian Anglin, Cumming; son, James E. Davis, Jr.; grandchildren, Margaret April Hardy, Charles Clinton Hardy; brothers and sisters in law, Earl Clinton and Pegeen Davis, North Carolina; Don Wayne and Beth Davis, Florida, Gary Lynn and Patricia Davis, Florida; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Memorial and interment services will be held Saturday February 6, 2016 at 3 PM at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Madison, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Georgia Lions’ Camp for the Blind, http://www.glcb.org/donate. Condolences may be expressed at www.beardenfuneralhome.com.
