Emilie Virginia Martin, 71, of Dawsonville passed away Friday October 23, 2015 at her residence following a hard fought battle against cancer.
Mrs. Martin was born January 2, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Emerald and Doris Schleicher. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Towson University and after moving to Georgia, she earned her Master’s Degree from Georgia State University. Emilie was a beloved school teacher to so many students. She taught pre-k through 3rd grade, beginning her teaching career in Dekalb County. She then moved to Douglasville, GA where she spent approximately twenty years working in the Douglas County School System. After retiring, she moved to Dawson County to enjoy the water and the mountains. Her love of children drew her to back to teaching, first with Head Start and then helping to implement the inaugural Bright from the Start Georgia VPK program in the Dawson County School System at Blacks Mill Elementary and Kilough Elementary.

Emilie loved Jimmy Buffett, National Parks, travel, reading, puzzles, her family, and working with children, where she loved being a part of their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Martin. Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Mary Catherine and Doug Wright, Indialantic, FL; grandchildren, Ana Cate and Ethan Wright, Indialantic, FL; sister, Anne Stockbridge, Baltimore, MD; and a brother, Moe Schleicher, Baltimore, MD.
The family will receive friends Saturday November 7, 2015 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at Bearden Funeral Home with a memorial service being held at 11 o’clock.
