Fred Goswick, Jr., 75, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday February 12, 2012 at Northside Forsyth Hospital following a period of declining health. Born April 11, 1936 in Dawson County to the late Fred and Ethel Goswick, he lived in Dawson County all but 18 years he spent in Smyrna. In his early life Fred was involved in the moonshine trade and ran trips hauling moonshine from Dawson County to Atlanta. Later in life he owned and operated Goswick’s Furniture which was the original place one could purchase a ham biscuit which was prepared by his mother on a wood stove. Fred later opened the Moonshine Museum and was instrumental in organizing Dawsonville’s first Fall Festival which later became the Moonshine Festival. He retired as a bridge inspector with the State of Georgia after over 25 years of service. Mr. Goswick was an accomplished artist who was widely known for his wood carvings. He served on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, was a member of Piedmont Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Grant, and brother, Jerry Goswick. Surviving are his sons, Tim Goswick, Dawsonville, Steve Goswick, Gainesville, Scott Goswick, Gainesville; the mother of his children, Eddie Goswick, Dawsonville; aunt, Thelma Anderson, Dallas, GA. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 noon until 9 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be private.
