Gordon Bruce
Gordon Leon Bruce, 87, of Dawsonville died Saturday November 21, 2009 at his residence following a period of declining health. Born March 8, 1922 to the late Ervin and Vashti Bruce, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Mr. Bruce retired from the Department of Agriculture after over 40 years of service, was a deacon of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as church clerk for over 20 years and taught Sunday School for 42 years. He was a U. S. Army Air Corp veteran of WW II where he served in the Pacific theater and was also preceded in death by a brother, William T. “Ralph” Bruce. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Onie Bruce, Dawsonville; sons and daughter in law, Don Bruce, Dawsonville, Mike and Jackie Bruce, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Tabatha and Ricky Chastain, Bart Bruce, Derek Bruce; great granddaughter, Morgan Chastain. Funeral services will be held Monday November 23, 2009 at 2 o’clock at Harmony Baptist Church. Rev. Joey Gilbert, Rev. J. W. Day and Rev. Steve Warren will officiate.
