James Burt

James Burt, 84, of Dawsonville passed away Friday July 7, 2017 at his residence following a period of declining health. Born June 30, 1933 to the late Luther and Luna Burt, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Mr. Burt retired from CWT Farms after over 20 years of service and he also operated a poultry and cattle farm for over 50 years. He was a member of Juno Baptist Church, was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Etowah Lodge #222 F & AM for over 50 years. James was a very loving and devoted husband, daddy, Papa, and a great “Papa James” to his great granddaughter. He enjoyed Classic Car shows. Also preceding him in death was his sister and brother in law, Melva and Egbert Tatum; brother and sister in law, Rev. Lawton and Aline Burt; and brother in law, Capt. Benny Stowers. Surviving are his wife off 59 years, Diane Burt, Dawsonville; children, Rev. Phillip and Teresa Burt, Dawsonville, Connie and Phil Jennings, Cumming; his twin sister, Hazel Stowers, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Lauren and Blake Samples, Mallory Burt, Jonathan and Sara Jennings; great granddaughter, Peyton Samples; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held Monday July 10, 2017 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gerral Richards, Rev. Larry Waddel, Rev. Monroe Gunter and Rev. Brody Hughes will officiate. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 8 and Sunday from 1 until 8 at the funeral home.
