Jean Greenway DAWSONVILLE, Georgia Obituary

Jean Greenway

Jean Greenway, 91, of Dawsonville passed away Friday March 25, 2016 at her residence following a period of declining health. Jean was born April 2, 1924 in Tennessee and was a long time resident of Dawson County. She moved here after retiring from her profession as a real estate broker in Atlanta to be closer to her family. Soon after moving here she became involved with the Dawson County Fire Department’s Women’s Auxiliary. She witnessed a family lose everything they owned in a fire and realized there was nowhere in Dawson County they could turn for help. At that moment she came up with the idea of the Ric-Rack. With the help of Helen Taylor, The Dawson County Women’s Club and several churches and civic organizations, she was able to put her plan into action. For the next 10 years she lovingly volunteered her time as the Ric-Rack Director. Jean enjoyed Mahjong, reading, volunteering and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, the Dawsonville Women’s Club and the Grandmother’s Club. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura J. Feagin; parents, Cyrus and Laura Minor; and her former husband, Harmon Greenway. Surviving are her children, Harmon and Sherea Greenway, Roswell, Meg and Ron Windsor, Alpharetta, Sallie and Bill Ledbetter, Dawsonville; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Saturday April 9, 2016 at 2 o’clock at Bethel United Methodist Church. Dr. Orin Sampson and Rev. Eddie Herring will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ric-Rack, P. O. Box 891, Dawsonville, GA 30534. Condolences may be expressed at www.beardenfuneralhome.com. Bearden Funeral Home, Dawsonville, GA.
