Jimmie "Jim" Fields

Jimmie “Jim” Fields, 80, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday September 19, 2017 at Seasons Hospice following a period of declining health. Born October 28, 1936 in Swainsboro to the late B.J. and Ruby Fields, he had been a resident of Dawson County since 2002 coming from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Jim served his country for a number of years in the Army National Guard. He retired from Florida Power and Light after over 35 years of service and was also involved in the Boy Scouts while in Florida. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the Dawsonville Lions Club, volunteer at the Dawson County Senior Center, and enjoyed working with stained glass and attending craft shows. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Remelle W. Fields. Surviving are his children, Michael Shawn and Debbie Fields, Dawsonville; Lisa Michelle Mortenson; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Virginia “Ginger” Purcell, Swainsboro; brother and sister in law, Kenneth “Pepper” and Barbara Fields, Swainsboro; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Friday September 22, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. David Sanders will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday September 21 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 11 a.m. until the service hour.
