Johnie Sheffield, 71, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday July 23, 2013 at Embracing Hospice following a short illness. Born November 11, 1941 to the late Hubert and Onie Slaton, Johnie was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. A homemaker at her death, she was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Sheffield; and a son, Joey Sheffield. Surviving are her grandson, Eric Sheffield, Dawsonville; great grandson, Andrew Sheffield, Dawsonville; sisters, Kathryn Jones, Dawsonville, Peggy Slaton, Dahlonega; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday July 26, 2013 at 3 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Lemley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made toward final expenses.
