Katie Shelton, 85, of Buford passed away Wednesday February 1, 2012 at Tara Plantation following a period of declining health. Born March 12, 1926 in Lumpkin County to the late John W., Sr. and Ella Perry Ralston, she resided in Chamblee over 50 years prior to moving to Buford in 1999. A homemaker at her death, she retired from Frito-Lay after over 20 years of service. Mrs. Shelton was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Shelton; dear friend, Hal “PawPaw” Compton; sisters, Clara Barker, Laura Ralston, Ollie Ralston; and brothers, W. I. Ralston, J. D. Ralston and John W. “June Bug” Ralston, Jr. Surviving are her son and daughter in law, Don and Jo Ann Shelton, Cumming; sisters and brother in law, Jimmie Nell Hamby, Cumming, Geneva and Jerry Smith, Chickamauga, Martha Taylor, Dawsonville; brother and sister in law, Charles and Brenda Ralston, Bonair, GA; sisters in law, Lethia Ralston, Conyers, Donnis Faye Bragg, Mableton, Willa Dean Smith, Douglasville, Annie Ruth Corder, South Carolina, Doris Baxter, Douglasville; brother in law, Jimmy Shelton, Mableton; grandchildren, Donny and Tammy Shelton, Dawsonville, Jill and Jeff Harwood, Cumming; great grandchildren, Andrew Shelton, Ansley Stevens, Chase Samples; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held Saturday February 4, 2012 at 1 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jeff Wehunt and Mr. Jimmy Meadows will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 9 at the funeral home.
