Larence "Lynn" Hanks

Larence “Lynn” Hanks, 79, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday January 8, 2014 at his residence following a period of declining health. Born July 29, 1934 in Persia, Tennessee to the late Richard and Anna Mae Hanks, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 18 years having moved from Marietta. Mr. Hanks retired from Stein Steel after over 30 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed farming, spending time with his family and traveling to Disney World. Lynn was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict where he was stationed on the U.S.S. Salisbury Sound and served as a seaplane tender. He received the Air Force Pacific Fleet Battle Efficiency Trophy for seaplane tenders, the National Defense Service Medal and the China Service Medal. Mr. Hanks was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Patricia Hanks, Dawsonville; children, Renonda and Jimmy Appling, Acworth, Jovita and Randy Coggins, Canton, Anthony Richard and Lynn Hanks, Acworth, Sonya and Robert Lay, White; sister and brother in law, Dorothy and Jack Moore, Rockwood, TN; brother and sister in law, James and Marlene Hanks, Coalfield, TN; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Saturday January 11, 2014 at 1 o’clock at Georgia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
