Lois Chumley Obituary

Lois Swafford Chumley, 86, of Marble Hill passed away Thursday August 2, 2012 at Northside Forsyth Hospital following a short illness. Born August 13, 1925 in Dawson County to the late Carl and Mae Swafford, she had lived in Pickens County for the past 65 years. A homemaker at her death, Mrs. Chumley was a former nurse’s aide at the Tate Clinic after which she was Ward Clerk at Pickens General Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of Juno Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her sister, Cleo Bruce. Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Loy Chumley, Marble Hill; children, Glenda Black, Marble Hill, Randy and Barbara Chumley, Marble Hill, Linda Bearden, Dawsonville, Tracy and Rhonda Chumley, Dawsonville, Greg Chumley, Marble Hill; sister, Eunice “Boody” Chumbley, Dawsonville; brothers and sister in law, Glenson and Arlene Swafford, Dawsonville, Max Swafford, Holly Springs; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held Sunday August 5, 2012 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Phillip Burt will officiate. Interment will follow in the Juno Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 until 8 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Juno Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
