Robert Sheppard

Robert Lawrence “Larry” Sheppard, 76, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday November 16, 2011 at Atlanta Medical Center. Born in Norfolk, VA in 1935 to the late Robert and Margaret Sheppard, Mr. Sheppard was raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C. where he attended Massanutten Military Academy. A graduate of Alexandria High School in Fairfax County, VA, he went on to join the U.S. Navy as a deep sea diver. In the Navy he obtained the rank of W-3 officer and was a veteran of The Korean Conflict and Vietnam. After military service he settled in Dekalb County, GA where he was employed by the Dekalb County Water Department from which he retired. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, two sons and daughters in law, two grandchildren, a number of other relatives, and extended family in Australia. Memorial services will be held Saturday December 3, 2011 at 2 o'clock at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. Rev. Jad Denmark will officiate.  Casual dress is requested. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dawson County Parks and Recreation or the Dawson County Humane Society.
