Ruenell Whelchel
Ruenell Fowler Whelchel, 93, of Dahlonega died Thursday January 14, 2010 at BJC Medical Center following a period of declining health. Born February 20, 1916 in Lumpkin County to the late Dan and Eula Fowler, she lived a number of years in Atlanta and Smyrna before returning to Dahlonega 30 years ago. She was formerly employed by Atlanta Envelope Company and later was manager of Redford’s Store in Smyrna. Ruenell was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Whelchel, and a brother, Kermit Fowler. Surviving are her sister, Opal Reece, Alpharetta; brothers and sister in law, Edwin Fowler, Dahlonega, Lloyd and Pennie Fowler, Dawsonville; sister in law, Dorothy Fowler, LaGrange, and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held Saturday January 16, 2010 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jad Denmark will officiate. Interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
