Stoney Simmons Obituary

Stoney Simmons, 66, of Dawsonville died Tuesday April 20, 2010 at his residence following a period of declining health. Born June 12, 1943 to the late Cecil “Bodig” and Mary Simmons, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Stoney was a former deputy sheriff for Dawson County, a former commercial truck driver and worked as a trim carpenter until his retirement. He was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church and served on the board of directors for the Dawson County Farm Bureau. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lamour Bearden and Christine Reed, and a brother, Wallace Simmons. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Melba Simmons, Dawsonville; daughters and sons in law, Penny and Roger Garrett, Dawsonville, Pam Biddulph, Dawsonville, Rebekah and Sean Donovan, Dawsonville; sister and brother in law, Irene and Donald Reeves, Dawsonville; brothers and sister in law, Skeeter and Wynell Simmons, Dawsonville, Sonny Simmons, Dawsonville, Charles Simmons, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Mallory Garrett, Dylan Garrett, Macy Biddulph, Zachary Biddulph, Marley Biddulph, Isaiah Huff, Tristen Donovan, Isaac Huff, Iris Huff; great granddaughter, Ryleigh Grogan, and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held Friday April 23, 2010 at 2 o’clock at Pleasant Union Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Martin and Rev. Joshua Mulkey will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after 5 pm Wednesday and all day Thursday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to www.beardenfuneralhome.com.
