Vera Carter Obituary

Vera Carter, 87, of Dawsonville passed away Monday February 18, 2013 at Gilmer Nursing Home following a period of declining health. Mrs. Carter was born April 13, 1925 to the late H. Percy and Nellie Cox. Born and raised in Australia, she had been a resident of Dawsonville since 1945 after meeting her late husband of 63 years, L.C. “Spud” Carter, while he was serving in the military and stationed in the South Pacific. She retired from Standard Telephone Company after 17 years of service, served on the Dawson County Board of Education, and was a member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Mrs. Carter is also preceded in death by a son, Kelvin Carter; sisters, Azura Cox, Dorothy Cox; and brothers, Percy Cox, Kelvin Cox. Surviving are her daughters, Janice Clayton, Norcross, Christine Charnley, Dawsonville, Lisa Carter, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, Paul and Lynn Carter, Dallas, GA; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Friday February 22, 2013 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mr. Kenneth Williams will officiate. Interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
