Viola Louise Schmalz Obituary

Viola Louise Schmalz, aged 102, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2020. She was born in a small town, Alma, Missouri, on November 27, 1917 to Arthur and Pauline Tagtmeyer. She had one sister and four brothers, all of whom are deceased. At the age of 22, she and her sister moved to Chicago, Illinois where Viola met George Anton Schmalz. They were married 59 years before his passing away in 1999. They had two children, James Robert Schmalz (deceased) and Georgann Schmalz. Viola held a variety of jobs in Chicago before moving to New Port Richey, Florida in 1978 and St. Petersburg in 1985. She enjoyed many friends there and belonged to many clubs, including her church and the Salvation Army, and volunteered at the Bayfront Health (Medical Center) in St. Petersburg. At 97, her health declined and, no longer able to drive, she moved to an assisted living facility in Cumming, Georgia in 2015 to be closer to her daughter. After suffering a fall in April 2019, she moved to Dawsonville, Georgia under the care of hospice. Viola’s smile and great sense of humor, along with her desire to help others will be missed.
