Walter Ayers

Walter Lee Ayers, 96, of Dawsonville died Saturday August 22, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. Born December 9, 1912 in Banks County to the late Henry Washington, Sr. and Lavada Ayers, he lived most of his life in Dawson County. Mr. Ayers was a retired farmer and was a demolition expert and had worked on the construction of Buford Dam and the Lockheed lab in Dawson County. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II where he served in the European Theater and was a member of Winds of Peace Fellowship. He was the last member of a family of 10 children. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Etta Ayers, Dawsonville; children, Frances Lester, Dawsonville, Shirley Hulett, Dawsonville, Joyce Waters, Cleveland, Lee and Wanda Ayers, Dawsonville; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. A number of other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held Monday August 24, 2009 at 2 o’clock at Winds of Peace Fellowship. Rev. Tommy Panter and Rev. Lee Ayers will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
