Warthen “Buddy” Williford, 86, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday July 18, 2012 at Chestatee Regional Hospital following a period of declining health. Born November 6, 1925 in Jefferson County to the late Wiley and Lonie Williford, he moved to Dawsonville from Dekalb County in 1979 and moved to Dahlonega 5 years ago. For 25 years he was a truck driver for Triton after which he drove for Leon Jones until his retirement. Affectionately known as “Poppy”, Mr. Williford possessed a great love for his family and friends. He was a member of the Dahlonega Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Williford, and great grandson, Damion Kunz. Surviving are his daughters and sons in law, Joan and Dave Shumard, Lawrenceville, Kay and Will Dunne, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Stacy Henrie, Joshua Dunne, O’Ryan Dunne; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday July 22, 2012 at 5 o’clock at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dahlonega Ward. Bishop Robert Weischedel will officiate. Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to offset final expenses.
