Mr. Dwight Mangrum, age 60 of 231 Beecher Street in Lavonia, GA., passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He was born January 28, 1958 in Franklin County to Bessie Mangrum. In 1977, Dwight graduated from Franklin County High School in Carnesville GA. He then attended Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Mo and the Water and Wastewater Technical School in Neosho, Mo. Dwight began his career at the Kansas City Water Treatment Plant as Chief Plant Operator. He retired from his position in 2010. Upon retiring from his job in Kansas City he returned home where he was employed at Ritz Instrument Transformers of Lavonia GA.
On November 21, 2018, Dwight departed this life. He was proceeded in death by his sister, Brenda Borders, aunt, Louise Mangrum and uncle, George Mangrum and brother, Dennis Mangrum. Dwight's life and memories are survived and cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Thurley McCurry Mangrum of the home, his beloved mother, Bessie Mangrum of Royston, GA., one brother, Kenneth Mangrum (Marcene) of Carnesville, Ga., one step-daughter, Akesha Williams of Lavonia, GA., two step-granddaughters Delayshia and Jyhia Sturghill of Lavonia, GA., one God daughter, Dene Beck of Kansas City, Mo., one God son, Cedric Holt of Athens, GA., three nephews, David Mangrum of Toccoa, GA., Gregory Mangrum of Lavonia, GA. and Latrell Shealer of Carnesville, GA. and a host of cousins, relatives and close friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Mangrum will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Lavonia Church of Christ in Lavonia, GA. at one o'clock in the afternoon with Evangelist John F. Massey officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 5-6 pm at Coile and Hall Funeral Directors in Hartwell, GA.
The family of Dwight Mangrum would like to thank the nurses of Compasses Hospice, doctors and staff of Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center (Prince Tower), second floor Oncology Department and fourth floor ICU Department.
