Thomas Teasley

Thomas Emory Teasley, 85, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017. Born in Elberton, Georgia on February 28, 1932, he was the son of the late John E. and Emily Adams Teasley. He and his wife, the late Helen Brown Teasley, were married in 1953. After a stint in the army as a Private First Class Infantry from 1953-1955, Thomas and Helen settled in the Rock Branch community of Elbert County, where they lived, farmed, and raised their family for over 60 years. Four words come to mind when thinking of Thomas: faith, family, friends, and farming. From his childhood, Thomas has been a long-time member of Coldwater UMC and its Senior Sunday School class and has served his Lord and the community through their many outreach projects and his own generosity toward those in need. He was recognized by the church as an Honor Member. His love of family (especially his sons and grandchildren) and friends is manifest in their memories of camping trips to New Ford and Pistol Creek, of hours spent sitting on the front porch and churning ice cream during the summer months, of learning to drive a tractor at a (very) early age, of fishing in the ponds, of square dancing with the Granite Squares, of playing Rook at the old community center. Farming was and still is a family and community affair. In 1974, Thomas and the family were recognized as Elbert County’s Farm Family of the year. From row-cropping to raising chickens and cattle to cutting and baling hay, Thomas mentored not only his sons but many other young men. Their farms today are Thomas’s legacy. In addition to his wife and parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Horace and Carrie Teasley, and his sister-in-law, Harriet Brown. Survivors include his sons Mickey (Nan) Teasley of Elberton, Jimmy (Carolyn)Teasley of Toccoa, and Joe (Tammy) Teasley of Hartwell; five grandchildren: Tom (Lauren) Teasley and son Graham, Amy (Matt) Evans and 3 foster children, Chris Teasley, John Teasley, and David Teasley; his sister-in-law, Beverly (Marvin) Scott; his brother-in-law, Billy Brown, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Coldwater UMC at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 19, with the Reverends Ann Mann, Nita Crump, and Kevin Vaughn officiating. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Coldwater UMC cemetery. Pall bearers are Tom Teasley, David Teasley, John Teasley, Chris Teasley, Joe Teasley, and Matt Evans. In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to Coldwater United Methodist Church, 1604 Montevideo Road, Elberton, GA 30635. Coile and Hall Funeral Directors, 333 E. Johnson Street in Hartwell will be serving the Teasley family. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.chsfuneralhome.com
