Hazel Dorothy Burnett, 90, died peacefully at the home of her companion Ken Linderman on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in Kamiah.
Hazel was born in Fletcher, ID., on October 7, 1921 to Joe and Effie Denny. She grew up in the Craig Mountain area with 4 brothers and 3 sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. She married Joe Stephens in 1938 and had 3 children. In 1947 Hazel married Ernest Burnett in Clarkston, WA and they had 2 children.
In 1957 the family moved to the Headquarters area, then to Pierce in 1964. Hazel drove school bus in the Pierce-Headquarters area for 15 years, and also worked in the cafeteria at Timberline High School. In 1975 the Burnetts moved to Kamiah where Hazel owned and operated The Craft Shack. Hazel’s lifetime hobbies include camping, fishing, picking huckleberries and dancing.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Ernie; 2 sons, Delmont Stephens and Garl Stephens, and one grandson. Survivors include 3 daughters, Jean Lycan of Dixie; Gail (Mike) Hagen of Benton City; and Ernestine (Doug) Swank of Wenatchee. Hazel was blessed with 17 Grandchildren, 38 Great Grandchildren and 15 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday July 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Nezperce City Cemetery about 2:00 p.m. and a dinner and reception will follow at the Ladies Auxiliary in Craigmont.
