Janice K. (Nearing) Jarrett, 63, passed away Friday June 29, 2012 at the Hospice House of the North in Coeur d’Alene after a long illness.
Janice was born May 30, 1949 in Moscow to Charles and Laurene (Normington) Nearing. They moved to Lewiston when she was a young child. Janice attended Tammany Elementary and Sacajawea Jr. Hi. She was involved in horse gymkhana and barrel racing, in which she won many ribbons, belt buckles and medals. She rode her horse Skeeter through being the Queen of the Lewiston Round-Up in 1967. In school, Janice was involved in many activities. She was a cheerleader for seven years and was the Cheer Queen her senior year at Lewiston. Janice was voted the Most Popular girl in the class of 1967 of LHS.
On September 14, 1968 she was married to Bob Jarrett in Lewiston. They would have been married 44 years this fall.
After high school she attended business college in Lewiston for a couple of years. She worked at the Bon Marche for a while and then for Household Finance. Then the family started to arrive and she took time off to raise her sons.
She became a licensed Realtor and started work for the Tomlinson Real Estate Agency in Clarkston. She was the “Rookie of the Year” in 1977 and received the Top Sales Award for that year. She was the first woman with Tomlinson’s to sell over a million dollars’ worth of real estate. In 1982, she, Bob and the kids moved to Moscow. They had a restaurant and she went back to real estate in 1985. She was working at Harden’s Realty when they sold to the Bennett’s. She started her own real estate office in 1995 called University City Realtors with two partners. It grew to become ranked second in MLS sales in the Moscow area. In 2000 they merged with Tomlinson/Black Realtors.
In 2001 they moved to Post Falls where she worked for Tomlinson’s in Spokane and Tomlinson/Black of North Idaho. Janice was a Past President and Vice-President of the Moscow Board of Realtors, a member of the Tomlinson/Black Presidents Club and she won many awards as the top salesperson. She was a Committee Chair for Moscow MLS and a member of the Arbitration Committee.
She also worked for Lexington Homes where she won awards for the Most Transaction and the Highest Volume Award. She was in charge of sales and marketing for several developments.
Janice enjoyed scrapbooking and won a Best Scrapbook Award at the State of Washington from county fairs. She volunteered in the Coats for Kids program and was a Past President of the Lewiston YWCA. Janice and Bob served as chaperones for the Asotin County Royalty and the Lewiston Round-Up Royalty.
Janice will be remembered as a hard working person who gave of her time to others. She was a loving mother to her husband and sons to whom she was totally dedicated. She was a special person and people were fortunate if they got to know her.
Survivors include her husband Bob Jarrett, sons Slade Jarrett of Post Falls and Bart Jarrett of Lewiston; grand-daughters Sierra Jarrett of Potlatch and Wyatt Jarrett of Lewiston. Janice also has two surviving sisters; Bonnie Hillis of Chandler, AZ and Sandra Ralstin of Texas.
