LIFE REFLECTIONS OF JOHNNIE B. BROOKS “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depths, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 Death sends no summons but rise unseen on the breeze. It comes without reckless footsteps to all. Thus, it came on Monday night, April 8, 2019 to Brother Johnnie B. On August 14, 1948 Johnnie B. became the second child and first son born to the late Houston and Curley Reed Brooks in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. Johnnie B. was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Valley Missionary Baptist Church; there he attended service until he relocated to Illinois. Johnnie B. was educated in Copiah County Public School system. On December 18, 1971 Johnnie married the love of his life Gennette Wilder and to this union one beautiful baby girl was born (Kalynassia) in which she gave them a beautiful granddaughter (Apifani). He was a member of New Faith Independent Church, in Utica, MS. He was also a member of Prince Hall Oriental Lodge #68 F. & A. M. in Chicago, IL Employment: Johnnie B. was employed with Broadfoot Construction Company in Crystal Springs, MS as a gravel truck driver and forklift operator. In Early 1973 he and his family relocated to Chicago, Illinois and he earned the nickname “Killer B” and was employed by Arlington Race Track in Arlington Heights, Hawthorne Race Track for several years in Cicero, IL and Maywood Race Track in Maywood, IL. Stanadyne Screw Chicago division of machinery in Bellwood, IL as a Welder for many years until the Company closed. Johnnie B. always provided for his family and every time one door closed God always opened another and he was not standing still. He was called to employment with Berger Moving Company until they closed and at Cox Construction Company as an Ash Fault Truck Driver, in Buffalo Grove, IL until his retirement. After retiring from secular work, he started the “McDonald Coffee Club “with about fifteen members until he had a massive stroke in October 11, 2011. While being bedbound with his illness he never lost his sense of humor or his acknowledging who you were or understanding his surroundings. Johnnie B. departed this life on Monday Night, April 8, 2019. Johnnie B. left many memories for the many lives he touched, with a void but rejoicing in knowing that he is now with God and will forever be a part of our lives through thoughts and deeds. His living family includes his loving and devoted wife Gennette Brooks of 47yrs. Loving and caring daughter, Kalynassia Grille’r-Davis (Eddie); Granddaughter, Apifani Grille’r. Three sisters: Alice Ragsdale (Henry), Sallie Ann Welch, and Betty Brooks. Three brothers: Eddie B. Brooks (Inez); Oscar Lee Brooks (Mary) and Henry Lee Brooks. Godchildren: Chauncy Copeland; Jasmine M. Wilder Harper; Christopher Pope; Reneeteres Taylor; Dequita Yolanda Evans; Enethia Cookie Gibson and Tina Brooks Noel. Special Brother in-law Rufus Wilder Sr. (Fredonia). Nephew-son/Doctor- Dr. Charles Barron Jr. (Dawn). Niece & nephew grandchildren: Charles III and Dalyn Barron. Special Sister In-Law, Rosie Lee Williams. Brothers-in-Law: Joshua J Davis (Shirley); Ruttie Wilder (Cora), Charles Barron Sr. and Frank Hunley Jr. Sisters in- Law: Burnestha and Kathy Wilder. One Step granddaughter-Tiyonna Beene (Dion). Two step grandchildren: Dion Jr. and Dashawn Beene. Two play children Carol Mangum and Michael Mangum and Two play grandchildren Domonique Mangum and Siera Henderson. Two Aunts: Alpha Johnson (Leroy); Arlillian Harris. Special Uncle: Ira Martin a favorite aunt who preceded him in death Nora Martin. A Special/Friend/cousin driver, Edmon Earl Cooper. Three devoted friends: John Gill, Clyde Simpson and Ben Smith. A Host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Johnnie B. was a people person and would always have you laughing at his various jokes. He always found nicknames for his friends and relatives. Like “Leesah for Rayleshia, Mullie for Michele, String bean for Renee, Black for Lourean just to name a few.” He also had a love of cars and enjoyed the sport of racing cars and thought he could become a member of the INDY 500. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and watching football on Sundays. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Bulls, Bears and White Sox. He became a diehard Western TV watcher and would spend his spare time watching them on Saturdays and John Wayne was one of his idols. Let’s not forget the love he had for a good pair of Cowboy boots! Although he is no longer with us in the flesh, his spirit will remain close to all who loved and held him dear. Johnnie B.’ passing our way touched our lives in so many ways. He always said Don’t worry about me,” I am alright.” Remember you must let go and let God.” Special Gratitude We cannot begin to tell you just how you have greatly touched our hearts and souls. We can never thank all of you individually, but in our hearts, we will always remember what each of you have done. Because of you our time of sorrow was made easier to bear. God gave two hands, one to hold Him and the other for our fellowman. We have felt your hands offered in love and support with the loss of our loved one. Thank you for lifting the clouds and letting the sunshine through. May the Lord continue to bless each of you?
