Dr. Gerald Mendel died in his home in Chicago on August 25, 2015.
Dr. Mendel was born on May 9, 1929, in New York City. He graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1950, then attended Washington University School of Medicine and completed his residency at University of Chicago Clinics and Hospitals between the years 1957– 1960. He served as flight surgeon for the United States Air Force in Ashy, Japan, 1955–1957. From 1960–1966 he was at the University of Chicago in research. In 1966 he opened a private practice in Evanston, IL, where he practiced until he retired in 1998.
In 1969, he married Ann Lambourn and adopted her two daughters, Beth and Lisa; and in 1974 Lynn and Mike were born. He was grandfather to Dean, Brian, Jessica, Jack and Auden.
He had a passion for movies, cycling, foreign travel and culinary adventures.
His kindness, sense of humor, generosity and quiet strength will be deeply missed.
