David Lee Johnson, 60, of Murphysboro, passed away at 4:08 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, Illinois. David was born on October 16, 1959, in Murphysboro, to James Thomas Johnson and Helen Marie (Daffron) Johnson and Mr. Johnson later married Rachel (Martin). Mr. Johnson worked for Burris Disposal Trash Removal, Mills Distributing Company, 2 Dollar Store, Southern Illinois Liquor Store and Shawnee Forest Service. He picked up junky appliances for extra money. David married Brenda Tolbert on April 24, 2004, in Murphysboro, and they were together for 15 years until 2019. They had no children. He was survived by one son David (Dave) Lee Johnson, Jr.; his dog Duncan; three sisters Helen Marie Martinez of Malden, MO, Linda Johnson and Cindy Johnson, both of Carbondale; his twin brothers Joseph Johnson and his wife DeShonna Johnson, both of Murphysboro and John Johnson of Kennett, MO and another brother Perry Wayne Johnson of Jonesboro; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and he especially loved his niece Leslie Bryant. He was preceded in death by one sister Wendy Johnson, three brothers Thomas (Roy) Johnson, Lester Cleveland Johnson, and James B. Johnson, and his parents. He was dearly loved by his family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His body will be cremated and there will be private gravesite services held at a later date.
