Joyce Ann (Rains) Leeper, 75, of Murphysboro, went to the Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones, her husband and daughters. She lost her battle with cancer. She was born on Thomas J. Rains and Essie (Ellis) Rains in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Larry J. Leeper the love of her life of August 17, 1974, in Carbondale, Illinois. Mrs. Leeper was a member of Dutch Ridge Baptist Church. She loved the Lord! And she was loved by all She loved to make arts and crafts, including sewing, making purses, blankets, quilts, and flower arrangements. She especially loved to garden, She loved to go fishing and she loved hummingbirds. She liked to cook and can vegetables. More importantly, Joyce loved her family more than anything else and loved getting together with them. Joyce worked at some factories before she started her own business for home care for the elderly. She is survived by her husband Larry J. Leeper of Murphysboro; three daughters Marlene (Whelchel) Potter and her husband Roger Potter and Laura (Whelchel) Morber and husband Michael E. Morber, all from Murphysboro, and JoAnn Elaine Leeper from New Orleans, LA; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother Regina Sue (Rains) Ebberts and her husband Rick Ebberts of Dongola, Earl Rains of Anna, and Betty Deck of Illinois; two sisters in law Joyce Rains of Murphysboro and Cindy Jarvis and her husband Don Jarvis of Hurst-Bush; her mother in law Barbara Pierson of Herrin; and lots of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and brother in law Freda and Ray Tripp, brother Thomas E. Rains, sister in law Wilma Rains, and a brother in law Carl Deck. Her body will be cremated. Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
