Kathie Smith, 71, of Murphysboro, Illinois, passed away at her residence in Murphysboro, at 7 p.m., Thursday, September 5, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Allen officiating and burial at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Kathie was born on May 5, 1942, in Sand Ridge, Illinois, to Dan Keen and Delores "Sally" (Dameron) Keen. She was a homemaker and she loved to crochet, and she was a very good at baking and making cakes. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Elm Street Baptist Church in Murphysboro, and a member of the Hen Party. Kathie married Donald V. Smith on June 10, 1961, in Grimsby, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on July 14, 1989. She is survived by three children and their spouses Joe and Ruth Smith of Ava, Paula and Tim W. Lee of Murphysboro, and Tim and Linda Smith of Murphysboro; her mother Delores "Sally" Keen of Murphysboro; seven grandchildren Bobbi Compton, Amy Farris, Jeremy Lee, Kyle Lee, Adam Lee, Ciara Smith, and Dustin Smith; ten great grandchildren; one brother Albert "Abe" Keen of Murphysboro; one sister Robin Keen of Murphysboro; and lots of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
