Sparty Lee

Sparty Lee, 81, of Murphysboro, passed away at 7:46 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Sparty was born on April 5, 1936, in Sandridge Township, Illinois, to Herman Lee and Clara (Glodo) Lee. Mr. Lee had retired from the maintenance department at Tuck Tape in Carbondale. When he was younger, he was a very good athlete, especially as a baseball player and he was on the Martin Oilers fast pitch softball team. He also loved to fish and hunt; and he enjoyed playing music on his guitar. Sparty married Betty House on March 31, 1956, in Murphysboro, and she survives. Other survivors include three children Steven Lee and his wife Terrie Lee and Cathy Layne and her husband Rick Layne, all of Murphysboro, and Lisa Westover of St. Louis; seven grandchildren Brandy Dagner and her husband Dwayne Dagner, Colt Lee and his wife Heather Lee, Trent Lee, Clayton Layne, Kelcie Reiman and her husband Jake Reiman, Chase Westover and Cade Westover; five great grandchildren Valory, Kipton, Brooks, Weston, and Kash; and one sister Mildred Reiman of St. Petersburg, FL. He was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, and his parents. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. James Easton officiating and burial will be at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
