Roy L. Shanks, 70, of Freeburg, IL, passed away on May 8, 2019.

Roy was born July 11, 1948 in Stonefort, IL. He was a former member of First Baptist O’Fallon and currently attended Faith Family Church in Shiloh. Roy retired from Pinkerton Security after 20+ years as a security guard. He enjoyed listening to country music and sitting outside watching the world go by. He never met someone that was not a friend. Roy was loved and will be missed by so many.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorothy (nee Connett) Shanks; wife, Mary (nee Edey) Shanks; and sister, Mabel Niehls.

Surviving are his children, Michael (Brenda) Shanks of Belleville, IL, Michelle Lynn (George) Herrera of Belleville, IL; grandchildren, Megan Shanks, Jennifer (nee Herrera) Winterberg, Dakota Herrera, Austin Herrera, Dallas Herrera; and great-grandchildren, Mia Skoog and Eli Winterberg.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, May 13, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. at Faith Family Church, 704 N. Green Mount Road, Shiloh, IL 62221 with Pastor John Temple and Rev. Skip Leininger officiating.
