Fritzi Joy Kurtz Sciaky

Fritzi Joy Kurtz Sciaky (1932 – 2017) passed on December 31st at home in Orland Park, Illinois from heart failure. She is survived by her devoted husband, Albert, daughters Alexandra (April Campbell MD), Dolsa, Juliette de Lannoy (Mike), and Ada Vaughan (Tom Nowicki), daughter-in-law, Julie, and grandchildren, Benjamin, Madeleine de Lannoy, Nick de Lannoy (Evie Song) and Zola Nowicki. Fritzi was predeceased by her son, David. Fritzi was the youngest of three children (siblings Jane Gaff, Jerry) born to parents Walter and Henrietta Kurtz in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton College and spoke fluent French. Fritzi married Albert Mario Sciaky on September 7th, 1957 in Chicago. The Sciaky's raised their family in the woodsy southwest suburb of Palos Park. Fritzi was a supporter of many civic, cultural, and charitable organizations in the Palos-Orland area and beyond. While living in Palos, Fritzi loved celebrating her Faith at Church of the Transfiguration where she was a Eucharistic minister, choir member, altar guild member, Daughters of the King leader, and volunteer to countless projects. She hosted and played bridge for 20+ years. Fritzi worked in education, health care, and real estate, and at the Lemont Public Library. She loved to read, especially novels. Her prowess in Scrabble and crossword puzzles was legendary. Fritzi was an amazingly generous and warm person. She was best known as that extraordinary person who loved extravagantly, and lived with real joy and an awareness of the beauty she saw around her, especially in nature and in people. Fritzi and Albert shared a cottage on Lake Michigan with close friends Elizabeth and Ted Conger for fifty years. Summer visits, long and short, to “The Cottage” created indelible memories for their families and friends. Fritzi was adored by her family and will be deeply missed. Friends and family are invited to join us in remembering Fritzi on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 for a memorial gathering from 3:00-6:00 pm at The Church of the Transfiguration, 12219 South 86th Avenue, Palos Park, IL. Dinner buffet at 4:30 pm. Donations in her memory can be made to the Lemont Public Library, 50 E.
