Ruby G. Smith, 97, of Bloomington went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2019. Ruby was born September 25, 1921 in Monroe County and was the daughter of John M. and Mary Elizabeth (Shipman) Byers. Ruby was retired from MCCSC after 20 years working in Food Service. After retirement Ruby then volunteered for 20 years at the Opportunity House. Ruby was a Life Member of the Fairview United Methodist Church since 1941. Survivors include her daughter, Judith Lynn (Dr. Donald) Roberts of Hebron, IN; son, Mike (Sandy) Smith of Bloomington, sister, Maxine Lindsey; brother, John G. Byers; 4 grandchildren, Trevor Roberts, Dana Roberts-Purcell, Wendy Smith-Iskander, Kelly Smith-DeMier; 4 great grandchildren, Brayden DeMier, Bailey DeMier, Tony Iskander, and Sarah Purcell. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, William Leon Smith (1999), parents, step-mother Emma Byers, brother Goldie Bill Thacker, and sister, Leona Weaver. Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday August 13, 2019 at The Funeral Chapel of Powell and Deckard 3000 E. Third St. Bloomington with Glen Stidd officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am Tuesday until service time at The Funeral Chapel.
