Robert A. Pilkington, 81 of Decatur, died on Monday, February 18, 2013 at Bay Pines V.A. Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL. Bob was born in Alliance, Nebraska on March 4, 1931 to the late Leonard and Ruth M. (Leonard) Pilkington. He married Wilma Fredenburg on November 1, 1952. Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church and its choir. He was a member of the Decatur Lions Club, American Legion Post 43, and Disabled American Veterans. Bob graduated in 1965 from Adams State College in Alamosa CO with a BA and MA. He was in the United States Marines Corp during the Korean Conflict. He was a teacher and coach for North Adams Community Schools from 1969-1989. He was the head of the Industrial Arts Dept. at Bellmont and led the ICT program. He was a defensive coach for Bellmont Varsity Football and head coach for Varsity Baseball, and an assistant coach for wrestling. He was involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Bob and Wilma were avid sailors. He had his captain’s license on Lake Michigan and chartered sunset boat rides. They retired and sailed to the Bahamas during the winters for 7 years. Survivors include his wife of 60 years Wilma M. Pilkington of Decatur and Sebring, FL; children, Penny (Jim) Spiegel of Sebring, FL, Steven (Mary) Pilkington of Decatur, and Ron (Wendy) Pilkington of Napoleon, OH; a sister Helen Stafford of Denver, CO; a sister-in-law Marjean Pilkington of Culver City, CA; 8 grandchildren, Shelley (Brian) Glisson, Sean Spiegel, Shaanan Spiegel, Kayla Rose (Brad) Goodwin, Corey Pilkington, Sarah Pilkington, Rachel Pilkington and Jenna Pilkington; 4 great grandchildren, Gavin, Megan, Caleb and Grady Glisson. He was preceded in death by, a brother and a sister and a grandson Seth Samuel Spiegel. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home. Calling also from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23rd at First United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Martha Lyon and Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 43. Memorials may be made to Bay Pines VA Hospital-Fisher House or First U.M.C. Missions.
