Obituary for Barbara Sue Robertson

Barbara (Weirich) Robertson, 81, a beloved mother and grandmother, and former school teacher with an infectious sense of humor, died October 8 of Alzheimer’s disease at Sunrise of Carmel in her home state of Indiana. A former resident of Lake Oswego, Barbara had been living in Indianapolis, Indiana since 2000.

She was born in Frankfort, Indiana to Ruth McBride and Carl Sibbitt and was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and husbands Warren Weirich and Watson Robertson.

She graduated from Frankfort High School (Indiana) in 1943 and from DePauw University in 1947, where she achieved status in the academic honorary societies Phi Beta Kappa and Mortar Board. She was known at DePauw for her leadership and service, as president of the DePauw chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, a member of the Panhellenic Council and the Naiad synchronized swimming group.

Her main interests were her family and friends, her college and memories of her native Hoosier state. She was known for her ready smile and ability to make others feel at ease.

Barbara was a member of Lake Oswego United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her four children, Bill Montgomery of Celina, Ohio, Betsy Combs of Indianapolis, Indiana, Tom Montgomery of Dale City, Virginia, Nancy (Montgomery) Goldberg of Kirkland, Washington, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Harry Moore Mortuary, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, with a gathering of all friends and family to follow.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
