Obituary for Charles W.d. Gayley

Charles W. D. Gayley, 80, Carmel, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Maple Park Village in Westfield after a long battle with lung cancer. He had lived in Carmel since 1978.
Mr. Gayley had been associated with the Western Electric Company (now Lucent Technologies) and AT&T for over thirty years serving in a series of management positions in the New York, Chicago, and Indianapolis areas. He had managed several Western Electric plants in Illinois and Indiana, and retired in 1984 as AT&T Manager of Technical Sales in the Great Lakes area. After retiring from AT&T he was Director of Administration for the McGuire & Shook Corporation Architects and Engineers in Indianapolis. He then accepted a position as President of AES Interconnects in Avon, Indiana. He retired from AES in 1989, and served for a number of years on its Board of Directors.
Gayley served on active duty with the Navy in World War II and the Korean conflict, had long been active in the Naval Reserve, and retired as Commander of the U.S. Naval Reserve. He attended Dartmouth College, and graduated from Brown University in the class of 1947.
He is survived by his wife, Denise DeVeaux Gayley of Carmel; sons, James of Greensboro, NC and John of Ridgefield, CT; and daughters, Hope Nightingale Ellis of Chicago, IL and Anne Gabbert of Carmel, IN. A memorial service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 10th at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 7171 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46260. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
