David Leroy “Nick” Nicholson passed away April 11, 2012, at the age of 78.
He was born May 22, 1933, in Anderson to the late Elvis and Grace Nicholson. David graduated from Anderson High School. On December 28, 1958, he married Soteria G. Pancol.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany and served as Major in the National Guard.
After the war, he went to Ball State University where he received his Master’s in Education. He taught High School for 38 years in the Anderson Community School System. He also coached football, wrestling, track and swimming throughout his career.
He was past Master of Fellowship Masonic Lodge, past Commander of VFW Post 266 and participated in Honor Guard for several years; and member of First United Methodist Church, Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Daisy and Beverly.
Nick is survived by his wife, Soteria; sons, Christopher D. Nicholson, Michigan City, IN (grandson, Matthew Beau Nicholson, Jackson, MS), and Michael D. (Deborah L.) Nicholson, Lapel, IN, (grandchildren, Ali, Noah, Sophie); and 11 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1215 Jackson Street, Anderson. Funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. William “Bill” Mathys and Rev. Doug Barton officiating. A 21-Gun Salute will
follow the service.
