Obituary for Francis L. Havill

Mr. Francis (Bud) L. Havill, 84, of Avon, IN died Saturday, May 1, 2011 at the Methodist Hospital "Yellow Rose Unit" after a long fight with bone cancer.

Bud was born September 17, 1926 in Terre Haute, IN, to the late Frank and Mabel Havill. Reared in Terre Haute, he graduated from Wiley High School in 1944. Upon graduation, he entered the US Marine Corp where he served 17 months during WW2 on the USS Macon. During his service he was a clerk-typist and became an expert rifleman.

After his military service, he joined the Bell System where he held a variety of positions. He began his career as a testman. In 1977 Bud was named as Jaycee 'Boss of the Year' by the Jaycees while working in the Indiana Bell Telephone's Columbus office. He retired as an outside plant manager in 1982 after 37 1/2 years of service.

Bud was an avid golfer and member of the Prestwick Golf Course for 17 years. He continued to shoot his age from age 68 to 79 every year. He was a proud member of the 700 bowling club. Bud also loved music and enjoyed playing his keyboard.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Betty, children Cynthia Holt of North Port, FL, Frances Havill of New York, NY, Michael Havill of Las Vegas, NV, and Gregory Havill of Carmel, IN as well as five grandchildren, Carrie King of New Albany, IN, Philip Lyster of New York, NY, Shelly Havill of Seattle, WA, Taylor & Andrew Havill of Carmel, IN, and three great grandchildren, Kassie, Emma, & Olivia King of New Albany, IN.

A private memorial service will be held for the family, followed by burial at the Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, IN.
