Gerald M. (Jerry) Bates, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, October 20th, 2007. He was born August 25, 1921 in Indianapolis. He served in the U.S. Army as a MSgt in WW II and the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Civil Service Engineer for 30 years and the Army Reserves 972nd Engineer Battalion, for 33 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 495 and the VFW Post 7119.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vera (Jackson) Bates; daughter, Pamela Long (husband John); son, Michael Bates (wife Brenda); grandchildren, Michael Bates (wife Teronia), Amy Bates, Amanda Bates, Johnny Long, and Brandi Long; and great grandchildren, Rebecca Bates, Tiearia Westlake, Devon Bates, Devin Long, Delin Long, Ashton Williams, Kaylyn Bates, Darin Long, and Destiny Long.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 25th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Christians United Soldiers Memorial Chapel, 5626 Lawton Loop East Dr, Indianapolis. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26th, at the Chapel, with Ken Troutman officiating. He will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery Indianapolis, IN with military honors.
