Obituary for Herman Spencer Thomas

In Celebration of the Life of Herman Spencer Thomas

Born August 14, 1940 to Lynn L. Blackmon and Genieve M. Hill in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Herman received his primary education in the Indianapolis Public School system and attended Crispus Atticus High School. He retired from Chrysler Motor Company in Huntsville, Alabama after thirty-three years of employment.

Herman enjoyed life and lived life to the fullest. His hobbies were gardening, fishing, traveling, and bowling; and yes, he accomplished his goal of scoring a perfect game of three hundred.

He was known as, "daddy", "grand-daddy", "old man" (because of his grey hair), and "G-pop".

He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters: Kimberly Jones, Rotaunda Sanders (Ronald), Nancy Thomas, and Timia "Keisha" Thomas; two brothers: Anthony Fields and Griffin "Griff" Blackmon; one sister: Linda Jackson; fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and six nieces and 3 nephews, along with a host of friends from Indian and Alabama.

Miss Me, But Let Me Go

When I came to the end of the road
and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little but not too long
and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
miss me- but let me go.

For this is a journey that we much take
and each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's plan,
a step in the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
go to the friends we know, and bury
your sorrows in going good deeds,
miss me - but let me go.

Our father was not perfect, but who is? He passed on to the four of us how to enjoy and live life to the fullest, and for a couple of us, his premature greying.
