Obituary for James Monroy Grimes

James M. Grimes peacefully passed from this life into the presence of his Lord on July 6, 2012.

Born on May 17, 1926 in Owensboro, Kentucky, Jim grew up in Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Margie, his sister Martha Edmonds, and infant son Jay Jeffrey Grimes.

A graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, Jim was a professional musician, joining the local musicians union at the age of 14. He was a decorated World War II US Army veteran, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his valor and service while in France.

Together with his wife, Jim owned and operated Costumes by Margie in Indianapolis for 20 years, retiring in 1989. Jim was a very active entrepreneur and was influential in the revitalization of The Maple Road Development Association.

He was a member of Indian Creek Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign War, The American Legion, Kiwanis Club of Carmel, and a founding officer of the Kiwanis Club of Westminster Village North.

Jim is survived by his children, Stephanie Wright (David), Shelley Hawkins (Norman), Shari Francisco (Henry), and Jeremy Grimes along with his adoring grandchildren; Jordan and Jaimeson Wright, Seth and Joshua Abbitt, Carlos and Laura Francisco and four great grandchildren. And Brother-In-Law Charles Edmonds of Avon. In addition to his family, Jim loved and was loved by his friends at Westminster Village North.

A celebration of his life will be held at Harry W. Moore Mortuary at 86th and Allisonville Road in Indianapolis on July 10 at 2:00 PM. Visitations will be Monday, July 9, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 PM and the day of the funeral from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
