Obituary for Laura Lee Chave

Laura Lee (Schmedtje) Chave, 48, passed away on Sept. 6, 2006 in Falmouth, Massachusetts after an illness.
She was born in Boston, Mass on April 7, 1958 to Dr. John and Winifred (Zucchero) Schmedtje, and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana.
She was educated at Ladywood - St. Agnes High School, University of Dayton (Bachelor's degree), and Boston University (Master's degree in Education and Counseling).
She taught in the Boston area, and was certified to teach Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Laura Lee was an accomplished artist with skills in sculpture, jewelry making, painting, pottery, glass sculpture, knitting, crocheting, and weaving. She studied glass flamework/torchwork in Corning, New York and in France. She demonstrated her glasswork at the Sandwich, MA museum. She frequently would surprise and delight her family and friends with handcrafted gifts on special occasions.
When Laura Lee married Dr. Alan D. Chave, she moved to Falmouth, MA where she exhibited at the Summerhouse Gallery, stores, and art fairs.
She also enjoyed volunteering for the Samaritans and eldercare groups.
In addition to her parents and husband, she leaves behind her beloved daughter Ashlea Lauren, age 6, and a sister Diane Marie Stewart (husband James) of Indianapolis, brother Dr. John F. Schmedtje, Jr. (wife Emily) of Roanoke, VA., nieces Emily, Evans, and Helen; a nephew Henry; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She also leaves behind her Portuguese Water Dog, "Cody".
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wed, Sept. 20, 2006 at 10AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, with visitation at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery , St. Louis, MO.
