Obituary for Matthew Alan Elliott

Matthew Alan Elliott, 43, passed away on October 27, 2011.

Born on October 11, 1968 in Bloomington, Ind., he graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1987 and attended Indiana University.
After attending I.U., he used his early employment opportunities to fund adventures to Europe, mainly in London and Prague. His dream was to start his own business before he turned 30, and with that in mind, he opened the Northside News in 1998. With three of his close high school friends, the business expanded to include the News Café in 2004. The newsstand and sandwich shop served as a neighborhood staple and gathering place until it closed in 2010

A true Broad Ripple personality and icon, he was currently learning the art of crafting beer at Brugge Brasserie.

Among his many varied interests, Elliott enjoyed art and practiced in several mediums. His other avocations included baseball (the Chicago Cubs), fishing and camping, exercise, playing pub trivia, and discovering new out-of-the-way diners and restaurants.

He regularly attended the annual Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison, Wis. and loved going to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Most of all, he relished the company of a tight cadre of friends.

Survivors include a mother, Elaine Elliott, of Indianapolis and a father, Roger Elliott of Oklahoma City, Okla. He was well-known, well-regarded, and well-loved by legions of friends in Broad Ripple and beyond. All mourn his untimely death and remember his impactful life.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Matt Elliott on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brickyard Crossing Golf & Conference Center, 4400 W. 16th St., Indianapolis.

In lieu flowers, memorial donations can be made in the name of Matt Elliott to Friends of Ferdinand Inc., PO Box 1784, Indianapolis, IN 46206.
