Obituary for Robert Clayton Turney

Robert Clayton Turney 87, of Indianapolis, died February 19, 2007. He was born September 20, 1919 in Cincinnati, Ohio and adopted by Rev. H. E. and Gertrude L. (Sims) Turney. He graduated from Indianapolis Broad Ripple High School in 1937. He attended Wittenberg University participating in sports, track, wrestling and choir, graduating in 1941 with a B.A. in Chemistry. On Nov 23, 1944 he married Ruth Marie Bott and were married until her death in 1982. Bob was employed as a chemist and purchasing agent at Lilly Industrial Coatings Company, Indianapolis from 1942 to 1984. He married Margaret Sue House of Castleton in Dec, 1982. After his retirement they lived in Fort Myers Beach, FL and Indianapolis. Bob was an avid golfer and had a strong, fine bass voice and was a member of several choral groups.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; his sons, Richard and Thomas of Indianapolis, and daughter, Elizabeth C. Whiting of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Step-children, Beverly Lucas, Becky Dalton and Brian House, 9 grandchildren and 3 great children. Visitation will be Friday, February 23, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Sunnyside Road Baptist Church, Indianapolis, where he was a member. Services will be at 12 noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o Robert Turney.
