Obituary for Sherry Lynn Hamilton

Dr. Sherry Lynn Hamilton died peacefully at her home in Carmel, Indiana, on July 6, 2012. She was born on January 14, 1955 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Margery Neagle and Marion Hamilton. She is survived by her two sons, Nicholas A. and Andrew J. Martin of Carmel, IN; her sister, Lou Ann (Doug) Maurer and two nieces, Molly and Makenzie Maurer, all of Aiea, HI. Sherry is predeceased by her parents and her husband, Jeffery Lynn Martin.
Sherry graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1980. After a year of residency in Indiana, she enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States and was stationed in Germany for two years. It was during that time that she developed a love for travel which continued throughout her life. Returning to Fort Bragg, she worked with Delta Force doctors, a turning point in her life and where she found a passion for emergency room medicine. Completing a residency in Long Island, NY, Sherry moved to Indiana and joined the emergency room medicine group at St. Vincent’s Hospital where she practiced the medicine she loved for 18 years. When her illness required that she retire from this group, she continued to share her gift for healing as a volunteer for St. Vincent’s hospice. Sherry’s strong faith in God brought her to Carmel United Methodist Church where she was an active member and popular Sunday school teacher.
Dr. Sherry Hamilton will be remembered by her family and friends for the strong, endlessly positive person she was, and the great joy she found in giving to others.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Sherry’s life and her memory on Friday, July 13th starting at 11 am at Carmel United Methodist Church (621 Rangeline Road, Carmel, IN), followed by reception at Sherry’s home. In lieu of flowers, Sherry and her family request that donations be given to one of her favorite charities - St. Vincent’s Hospice, the Cancer Support Community of Indianapolis, or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children. Friends may sign her online guestbook at www.harrywmoore.com http://www.harrywmoore.com
