Betty J. Copeland, age 71, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Waters of Clifty Falls. Born May 18, 1946 in Madison, she was the daughter of Walter R., Sr. and Virgie M. (Denning) Massie. Mrs. Copeland was a homemaker and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She will be sadly missed by two sons: Joseph Thomas of Worthville, Kentucky and Keith Thomas of London, Kentucky; four step-sons: Jerry Thomas of Wisconsin, Quentin Dale Thomas of Washington, Terry Thomas of Carrollton, Kentucky, and Michael Thomas of Vermont; one step-daughter, Tina Laird of Stevensville, Maryland; four sisters: Phyllis Summer of Hanover, Indiana, Diana Smith of Worthville, and Debbie Massie and Nellie Mason, both of Madison; five brothers: Walter Massie, Jr. and Michael Massie, both of Scottsburg, Indiana, Kenneth Massie and Daniel Massie, both of Madison; and Joseph Massie of North Vernon, Indiana; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ollie James Thomas, Jr.; step-children: Patricia Smith, James Thomas and Dianna Stranahan; three sisters: Mary Bentz, Helen Massie, and Virginia Massie; and two brothers: Raymond and Johnny Massie. Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison. Interment will be at a later date.
