Charles Franklin Higgins

Charles Franklin Higgins, age 84, of Bloomington, Indiana, formerly of Deputy, Indiana entered this life September 6, 1932 in Brooksburg, Indiana. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Edith Sailor Higgins. He was raised in Switzerland County. Charles served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1952-1956. On September 6, 1957 he was united in marriage with Donna Kay Herring, in Madison, Indiana. Although Charles worked at Rexnord (Envirex) for 33 years (1960-1993), his passion was farming. He loved animals, being outdoors with the farm animals and beekeeping. He had a green thumb, raising a huge garden every year. Charles was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a member of the Clifty Creek Coon Club. After retirement Charles took up wood working, making many furniture pieces for family and friends. Charles spent many nights around the table with the family playing Euchre and Uno. Charles died at his home at 3:45 Sunday, September 3, 2017. Charles will be missed by his loving wife, Donna of 60 years. His loving children, Cheryl Higgins Pope and her husband Darrin of Indianapolis, Andrew Higgins and wife Yong Hui of Warner Robins, GA; Gary Higgins and wife Loretta Couch Higgins of Bloomfield, Indiana; Karen Higgins Musser and husband Dennis of Greenfield, Indiana; his brother, Ralph Higgins and wife Beverly; her sisters, Rosemary and Bill Sullivan; Caroline and Joe Tevis, all of Madison, Indiana; eight grandchildren: Amy, Nicole, Megan, Justin, Stacey, Sara, Nathaniel, and Katelyn; seven great grandchildren: Grace, Logan, Makenna, Jaxon, Mason, Tucker, and Matthew. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Edith Higgins; brothers, Herman and Lawrence Jr., and sister Eva Joan Higgins Baxter. Reverend Don Thie will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Friday, September 8, 2017 at Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison Hilltop, with interment to follow in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, will conduct a final salute at the funeral home and military honors at the cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison Hilltop from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, September 7, 2017, and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made at any Lytle Funeral Home & Cremation Service locations.
